Routes

Go somewhere worth remembering.

Alberta’s bikepacking routes come from riders, local groups, organizations and, in a smaller number of cases, ABS itself. The library keeps route creators attached to their work while adding a consistent layer of planning information.

Route library

Community routes first. ABS projects clearly marked.

Route origin and ABS information status are separate. Community Route tells you where the route came from and who created it. Verified, Beta, Indexed or Development tells you how much ABS has documented or checked.

The creator stays with the route. ABS research, stewardship, verification or map hosting does not turn a Community Route into an ABS Project. Original creators and authoritative sources remain attached to the record.

Most complete

Verified

Ridden and reviewed, with the core route record and required verification complete. Verified does not mean frozen in time—check each route for current notes or alerts before leaving.

Still being strengthened

Beta

Complete routes that are usable now, but still have information, evidence or field verification being strengthened before they move to Verified.

Community route discovered

Indexed

The route has been identified and attributed, but ABS has not yet completed enough independent review to present its planning record as Beta or Verified. Indexed describes the ABS record—not the quality or maturity of the original route.

In progress

Development

Routes still being built, researched or field-tested. These are shared to make the development process visible, not as finished navigation products.

A better route standard

More than a line on a map.

Every route in the ABS library uses a common standard for origin, information status, difficulty, logistics, verification and stewardship information.

Distance, surface, remoteness, seasonal conditions, camping, resupply, water, access notes, route status and a clear last-verified date will form part of the route record.
